This post will look at why it is important to think about the experience of disabled students.

Understanding the experiences of disabled students at university can help you to see why designing for accessibility is so important. To read about their experiences take a look at some of the following resources:

  • The Student Room – community site with contributions from disabled students
  • Connexions – Videos of disabled students talking about their experiences in Leicester
  • Radio 4 – Disabled Student Diaries
  • Geography Discipline Network – Although written from a tutor’s perspective this resource provides several interesting case studies about disabled student experiences at university.

The next post will look at the different types of assistive technology that some students use to access learning.
